Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization founded by Reshma Saujani. GWC aims to support and empower young women in computer science. Their goal of closing the gender gap within the tech field has already made a difference. So far, the organization has reached 185,000 girls across the United States with almost 50% coming from historically underrepresented groups. Girls Who Code has helped hundreds of girls pursue a career in tech and is continuing to do so today.

The Coding Space

The Coding Space offers coding classes in New York City to students of all ages and skill sets. Classes are open to both boys and girls, but a program called GirlCode is specialized to teach code in an all-girl environment. The Coding Space seeks to give education to, provide tools for, and make technology accessible to everyone.

iD Tech

iD Tech is a program that hopes to start an education in STEM for kids and teens. Camps are available for a whole range of ages, 7 to 19. They have 150 USA locations and 5 global locations. iD Tech has classes with something for everyone: Java, Python, robotics, artificial intelligence, game design, app development, and so many more topics!

Find a Mentor:
Use people in STEM as examples of how you want to turn out. Make sure to reach for the stars, and never doubt your ability!!!

Ask Questions:
Curiosity can only be cured with asking questions, ensuring that you get the most out of coding.

Utilize Online Courses:
Never underestimate the power of the google search engine. With enough digging you can find great (and even sometimes free) coding classes that are flexible for your schedule. Or save time and check out Get Involved and see our most recommended courses to take.

Use Computers From School or the Public Library:
If a laptop isn’t at your disposal run down to a public library or use school computers in order to code.

Let Youtube Videos Teach:
Youtube has some great videos that can demonstrate and explain coding languages.

Write Down Code:
Rather than downloading or paying for programming tools, writing code down in a notebook ignites muscle memory and will help for the future, for needing to write the code in college classes.

Work With a Team:
Working as a team will help work through problems and create fresh ideas to be used.

Start Simple:
Even the best in the buisness had to start somewhere. Don't be scared to start easy, eventually you will be able to take on challenging projects.
